A Step-by-Step Guide to Plan Your Home Interiors

Your home is supposed to be a place where you feel most comfortable. However, you also want your home to look good. So, how can you find a balance when you home looks and feels comfortable. Fortunately, home decor is exactly about finding that balance.

Now, the first thing you should know about interior designs is that you cannot take everything on your plate at once. You need to go step-by-step in turning a house into your home. Hence, it is always better to plan ahead of starting the actual process of decoration your house.

The most common and first problem you will face with interior designing is not knowing what to begin with. Hence, here is a step by step guide for planning your home interiors:

  1. Know your space and requirement

The first step of any process is to know how much you have and how much you need. Similarly, with home decor the first step of the process is to understand the kind of space you have to decorate. This will give you an idea of what you require.

For this, you should have the answers for a few questions. For example, how many people live in the house? What is your reason for designing your house? What ideas do you have? All of these questions should have a clear answer.

Once you have a list of requirements, share it with your interior designer to get his/her thoughts on it.

  1. Decide a budget

While the previous step is about ‘what you want’, this one is about ‘what you can have’. Even if you own a fortune, does not mean you have to spend it on interior designs. Hence, you need to set a budget when you decide to change up your home decor.

Once you have come up with the total amount you can spend on the whole process, divide it for each area of your house. This division should be based on factors like the room size, furniture, accessories, etc.

  1. Develop designs

Being the main part of interior designs process, design development combines a creative thought process with interior architecture. The most important part of the process is space planning. This involves receiving a virtual design of the room from your interior designer. This will help you in understanding the proportions and the usage of the rooms. It is the visuals in this design that will turn into reality when the actual process begins.

  1. Fix plumbing and electrical points

This step is where the functionality of home decor is most prominent. Every house has electricity and a water supply. However, just having them is not enough. They should be ergonomically placed to make things easier for you while not tampering the look of the house.

Hence, the next step is to plan where all your electrical points will be. These includes, light switches, power sockets, light fittings, etc. Additionally, it also requires for you to plan how your plumbing has to be updated. Ideally, these decisions should be made before you start painting the rooms. However, the planning for them should be done in the design development stage.

  1. Look into flooring material and designs

Out of all the surface in your house, the floor takes the most wear and tear. Hence, selecting the right flooring is an important decision and understandably time-consuming.Firstly, collect all the information you can about different types of flooring. The most common choices are hardwood, vinyl, laminates, and tiles. When making you choice, you should focus of the cost, the area to be covered, and maintenance of the flooring, among some others. For example, when flooring your bathroom, you should look for a material that will make the bathroom floor less slippery when wet.

  1. Select woodwork and furniture

Furniture is what makes a house livable. Hence, it needs to be picked out at just the right time. There are two options when it comes to buying furniture. First is buying what’s available in the store and the other is getting furniture designed for your house. If you are getting your furniture designed, you must look into woodwork and types of wooden materials that can be used for building furniture.

On the other hand, if you are buying furniture look into space the piece takes and the purpose of it. Utility and beauty should blend together when buying furniture. For example, if you have a smaller house, get furniture that does take up much space and has storage space.

  1. Choosehow thewalls will look

When getting into home decor, walls are the final piece of the puzzle. The trick with making your walls look good is not too complicated. You can either get them painted in the right colour or you can get a wallpaper pasted on the walls. Either way you choose to go, go for coloursthat match with the lighting and the furniture.
